Local football player killed after high school graduation

SURRY COUNTY-- A Sussex Central High school student is killed just after graduation.

"His was the only friend I hugged on graduation day. I didn't know I was saying goodbye," parent Wanda Russell said.

A day after graduation, Johnson was at a party at home on Alliance road. A fight broke out, and the Surry County sheriff office says Johnson was one of three people shot. Johnson died from his injuries. Deputies are still searching for the shooter.?

Johnson's mother is still dealing with the pain. "I want people to look at his life, and let's come together."

The graduate was a quarterback and had a bright future ahead of him. He was heading to North Carolina Wesleyan on a football scholarship.

His friends have created a Facebook page to remember him.
